CIG Annual Business Meeting (Parc 55, San Francisco, CA, from Dec 13, 2010 06:00 PM to Dec 13, 2010 08:30 PM)
CIG Annual Business Meeting at Fall AGU Meeting
Training Session for the Gale Computational Software in Tectonics and Geophysics (Denver, CO, from Oct 30, 2010 08:00 AM to Oct 30, 2010 05:00 PM)
An important component of interpreting the wealth of data available to geologists is the use of computational methodologies to simulate tectonic processes. In this training session, the NSF-sponsored Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics (CIG) will focus on training of new users in the use of the tectonics modeling software Gale.
GLADE Workshop: From grains to global tectonics (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, CA, from Jul 26, 2010 09:30 AM to Jul 29, 2010 05:00 PM)
GLADE (Geodynamics of the Lithosphere and Deep Earth) will serve as a nesting ground for the U.S. Geodynamics community, and seeks to unify the lithosphere and mantle dynamics communities to address outstanding scientific and technical challenges in Geodynamics. We strongly encourage participation from scientists investigating the rheology of Earth materials and observing plate tectonic processes.
2010 Workshop on Crustal Deformation Modeling (Golden, CO, from Jun 14, 2010 09:00 AM to Jun 18, 2010 05:00 PM)
The Crustal Deformation Modeling (CDM) 2010 workshop will be held in Golden, CO (June 14-18, 2010), on computational models addressing the seismic cycle across single and multiple events. The workshop blends science talks on case studies from particular faulting environments and on key rheological behavior with discussions of current obstacles to crustal deformation modeling.
CIG Business Meeting (Parc 55, San Francisco, CA, from Dec 15, 2009 06:00 PM to Dec 15, 2009 08:30 PM)
You are invited to this public forum (held during AGU) for members of the Geosciences community to discuss the future development of CIG. Reception; cash bar.
2009 Workshop on Numerical Modeling of Crustal Deformation and Earthquake Faulting (Golden, CO, from Jun 22, 2009 08:00 AM to Jun 26, 2009 05:00 PM)
The focus of this gathering is on computational models addressing crustal deformation with an emphasis on the seismic cycle across single and multiple events. The workshop will blend science talks on case studies from particular faulting environments and on key rheological behavior with discussions of current obstacles to crustal deformation modeling.
Training Sessions on Tectonic Models and Large-Scale Earth Models at EarthScope 2009 (Boise Centre on the Grove, Boise, ID, from May 12, 2009 08:30 AM to May 12, 2009 05:00 PM)
At EarthScope on May 12, 2009, in Boise, ID, CIG will conduct two separate training session, each lasting from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: one in the use of the Gale and PyLith software packages for Tectonic Models, and the other in Large-Scale Earth Models using SPECFEM3D/CitcomS software. Financial support is available for graduate students and post-docs who wish to attend.
Opportunities and Challenges in Computational Geophysics (Sharp Lecture Hall, California Institute of Technology, from Mar 30, 2009 09:00 AM to Mar 31, 2009 05:00 PM)
The workshop addressed scientific activities involving state-of-the art software such as that being supported by CIG, innovations and opportunities in computational geophysics, and ways to support and grow computational geoscience through community education programs. An important objective was to obtain community input on the future of the CIG initiative. The overall format combined invited talks, discussion sessions and posters. Participants in all areas of our science attended, including experts in computational science and in geophysics. Young investigators were encouraged to participate. Financial support was available for participants.
CIG Business Meeting (Parc 55 Hotel, Sienna Room (3rd Fl.), 55 Cyril Magnin St., San Francisco, CA 94102, from Dec 16, 2008 06:00 PM to Dec 16, 2008 08:30 PM)
You are invited to this public forum (held during AGU) for members of the Geosciences community to discuss the future development of CIG. Reception; cash bar.
CIG Workshop on Mathematical and Computational Issues in the Solid Earth Geosciences (Santa Fe Hilton, Santa Fe, NM, from Sep 15, 2008 08:00 AM to Sep 17, 2008 05:00 PM)
On Sept. 15-17, 2008, at the Santa Fe Hilton in Santa Fe, NM, this CIG workshop will bring together solid-earth geoscientists, mathematicians, and computational and computer scientists to focus on specific issues arising from a range of solid-Earth dynamics problems that have proven both difficult and critical for progress in studying and modeling the dynamics of the planet. These problems form the core activities for CIG and provide new challenges and opportunities in multiscale/multiphysics modeling and inference.
2008 Workshop for Advancing Numerical Modeling of Mantle Convection and Lithospheric Dynamics (UC Davis, Davis CA, from Jul 09, 2008 08:00 PM to Jul 11, 2008 10:00 PM)
Participants from the mantle convection and lithospheric dynamics communities will discuss scientific advances and, importantly, technical and scientific issues related to the quantitative modeling of the origin and evolution of the mantle-lithosphere system.
2008 Workshop on Numerical Modeling of Crustal Deformation and Earthquake Faulting (Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO, from Jun 23, 2008 08:00 AM to Jun 27, 2008 05:00 PM)
Workshop on computational models addressing the seismic cycle across single and multiple events. The workshop blends science talks on case studies from particular faulting environments and on key rheological behavior with discussions of current obstacles to crustal deformation modeling.
