SUMMARY:Opportunities and Challenges in Computational Geophysics
DESCRIPTION:The workshop addressed scientific activities involving st
ate-of-the art software such as that being supported by CIG\, innovat
ions and opportunities in computational geophysics\, and ways to suppo
rt and grow computational geoscience through community education progr
ams. An important objective was to obtain community input on the futu
re of the CIG initiative. The overall format combined invited talks\,
discussion sessions and posters. Participants in all areas of our sc
ience attended\, including experts in computational science and in geo
physics. Young investigators were encouraged to participate. Financial
  support was available for participants.
