CIG has received an allocation on the NSF TeraGrid for workshops, software development and allocation to the community.
The NSF TeraGrid is a multi-year effort to build and deploy the world's largest, most comprehensive, distributed infrastructure for open scientific research. The allocation (30,000 SUs) that CIG has received will allow access to any of the massively parallel machines using TeraGrid Wide Roaming Access. CIG hopes to use the allocation mostly for two of four summer workshops (including the Mantle Convection Workshop to be held this summer). Besides the workshops, CIG staff will be using the allocation for software development and testing. Some of the allocation can be used by members of the community for their own research. By gaining experience with the TeraGrid, CIG hopes to submit a request for a large allocation by the end of the calendar year.
